Undergraduate Accounting Major Not Required

  • Is your undergraduate degree in accounting? Many professionals agree that the strongest credential today in accounting is the CPA / MBA combination. The MBA in Accounting Degree at FAU will give you 18 additional credits  toward the CPA certificate. With your undergraduate accounting courses, that should give you enough hours for the CPA exam in most states in the U.S. (State requirements range from approximately 10 to 36 hours. Be sure to check with your state's Board of Accountancy for most up-to-date information) International students can also obtain the CPA certificate.

Accounting has radically changed in recent years, and the majority of all accounting revenues now come from consulting. Only about 10% of revenues now come from auditing. The truth is that the typical undergraduate program doesn't prepare you for consulting, but the MBA/Accounting degree at FAU degree gives you the tools you need to be prepared for today's accounting world.

If you are coming from a traditional undergraduate accounting program, you will find graduate studies in accounting quite different.   • Is your undergraduate degree in Economics, Finance, Information Technology/Systems, Management, Marketing, or Real Estate? Accounting is the language of business, and most of our graduate accounting courses require only the MBA core accounting course as a prerequisite. Get the tools that you need to succeed: e-commerce, financial statements analysis, international accounting, consulting, assurance services, taxation, accounting information systems, advanced managerial accounting.

    Did you know that you don't need an undergraduate degree in accounting to qualify for the CPA certificate? At this writing California requires only 10 hours of accounting, and the number of required accounting hours varies from approximately 10 to 36, depending on the state. (Click here for a list of CPA requirements in your state ). Florida requires only 4 accounting courses  and a total of 36 accounting hours. Depending on your background you can earn up to 18 hours in accounting as part of your MBA in accounting. The MBA in Accounting will either give you enough accounting hours for the CPA certificate, or it will give you the option of pursuing a CPA certificate after you graduate.  International students can also obtain the CPA certificate

  • Is your undergraduate in a non-business area? The MBA in accounting can really open the doors for you. You will receive the same number of accounting credits that most undergraduate business majors receive in their major areas. If your goal is middle management, then accounting is an excellent choice for your concentration.
